Bio

I fell in love with pottery my junior year in high school and it’s been a passion ever since. I received my BA in Ceramics from SDSU in 2011 and a teaching credential from SJSU in 2012. I taught ceramics at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California for 9 years before moving to the Pacific Northwest for the dream of owning my own wood kiln. In California, I frequently fired my work at Spring Valley Anagama in San Jose County, helping to lead and organize wood-firings. Currently, I live in Vancouver, WA, teaching high school ceramics in the Camas School District and working out of my home studio.

Statement

I craft my pots to tell the story of their creation. This begins with the way each piece is formed and marked, conveying a dialogue between my vision and energy as a maker expressed through the materials. Finally, I explore the unpredictable forces of nature through the wood-firing process. Warping, ash glaze, and flame marks are effects of the wood-fired process that give my pottery visual depth and complexity. My intention is to invite deeper exploration into the subtleties within each of my pieces, offering a unique aesthetic experience and igniting the senses during the rituals of everyday life.
